When the original clients came to us about this custom home in Portland Heights, they had just tried to purchase a house we had built a few years earlier that the current owners were selling.

Unfortunately, they were outbid by another buyer in a hot Portland market. About a month later and three blocks away, they had another opportunity to purchase a home that needed, at minimum, a complete gut renovation. They told us they wanted as close to their “dream house” as they had just lost out on. One of the main things they loved about the Portland Heights Tudor Revival Home was the floating breezeway that connected the detached garage to the main house. Aram Irwin was asked to incorporate this into the whole plan. Initially, they wanted a two-car garage, but setback limitations wouldn’t allow it, so they were forced to build a one-car garage with an ADU. We think the scale of the garage blends perfectly with the main house, just like in the Portland Heights Tudor Revival Home. The interior of this space boasts 17 ft high ceilings with painted box beams. There is a large, functional kitchen with flush-inset cabinetry painted clean gray and beautiful quartz countertops that closely mimic Carrera marble. A custom king-size Murphy-style bed built by our incredible cabinetmaker. On one side of the bed is a small built-in closet, and on the other side, a fold-out workspace. When the bed is closed, it disguises itself as a beautiful built-in that blends perfectly into the space.

Finally, one of the most incredible features of the space is the custom “ship-style stairs that lead to the loft above the kitchen and bathroom space. This loft can easily accommodate another bed and is a perfect use of space. Everything in this space is as custom as this one-of- a-kind home, and as always, we were very fortunate to have been chosen to build such a beautiful home.
